Does lip dermal filler treatment hurt?
Lip dermal fillers are uncomfortable if no anaesthetic is used. The lips are one of the most sensitive areas on the body to have treated, but thankfully there are several ways to reduce the sensation before treatment.
Lips can be numbed before treatment using:
- Ice
- Local anaesthetic cream
- Local anaesthetic injection
At Cityskin we tend to prefer using local anaesthetic cream and ice before treating lips with fillers. Local anaesthetic injections can be used (also known as a ‘dental block’) but this involves 4 small injections inside the mouth. This makes local anaesthetic injections unpopular.
How long do I need to have numbing cream on my lips before filler treatment?
We usually place local anaesthetic cream on the lips for around 20 minutes to make sure the lips feel numb before treatment.
Will the numbing cream remove all sensation?
Placing local anaesthetic cream on the lips can dramatically reduce the sensation in the lips for about 45 minutes – 1 hour. Despite being quite numb you may feel a small pinch when you are having the lip filler treatment. The fillers that we use at Cityskin contain local anaesthetic so as we treat you, the lips become number.
