As we age the lower face tends to sag and can look heavy. We can treat the lower face with anti-wrinkle injections to relax the muscles that pull the lower face downwards. This treatment is known as the ‘Nefertiti lift’. It is a popular treatment for patients in their 40s, 50s and 60s and for those who would like a subtle lower face lift without surgery.
How to perform a non surgical facelift / Neferiti lift
In order to lift the lower face using anti-wrinkle treatment we need to relax the depressors of the lower face. The depressors of the lower face are the muscles than pull the face downwards and include platysma, depressor anguli oris (DAO) and mentalis, shown in the diagram below. By injecting small amounts of anti-wrinkle product into the depressors of the lower face, we can reduce the downward pull of these muscles and create a subtle lifting effect.
How many units will I need?
We commonly use up to 20 units of anti-wrinkle treatment to achieve the lifting effect. We place very small units in each of the lower face depressors, as shown in the diagram below. Facial anatomy varies from person to person and you may need more, or less units to achieve the desired effect.
Who was Queen Nefertiti?
Nefertiti was a Queen of Egypt who lived in 1300 BC. Her sculpture (shown below) is an icon of feminine beauty. The non surgical lower face lift is named after her, hence the term ‘Nefertiti lift’.
How long will it take before I notice results?
It takes approximately 7-10 days for the anti-wrinkle treatment to take effect. The effects should last for up to 4 months.
Which anti-wrinkle brand do you use for the Nefertiti lift?
By law we are not allowed to mention brand names but when we treat the lower face we like to use the most commonly recognised anti-wrinkle brand. We find it is safe and predictable in its’ results. It is the ‘American’ brand.
How much will the treatment cost?
The likely cost of the treatment is $200 – $300 depending on the number of units used. Read our guide to anti-wrinkle units here. The anti-wrinkle brand that we use for the lower facelift costs $12 per unit.
