Are anti-wrinkle treatments still considered unsafe whilst breastfeeding?

Melinda asked 4 months ago

Thanks for the question Melinda. In Australia anti-wrinkle treatments are in pregnancy category ‘B3’ according to the Therapeutic Good Association (TGA) classification. Category B3 means,

“Drugs which have been taken by only a limited number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age, without an increase in the frequency of malformation or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the human fetus having been observed.

Studies in animals have shown evidence of an increased occurrence of fetal damage, the significance of which is considered uncertain in humans”.

I always recommend waiting until you have finished breastfeeding before having anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler treatment. The same goes for pregnancy – we recommend that if you are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant to avoid anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatment.

Come and book in once you have finished breastfeeding!
