Anti-wrinkle injections can definitely help with facial sweating. The product works by temporarily blocking a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. When acetylcholine temporarily blocked, it reduces/ stops the sweat glands from producing sweat. It generally takes about 1-5 days to start working, with the peak effect of the drug being at the 2 week mark, and generally lasts up to 3-4 months.
Areas as treated for facial sweating are generally the forehead and the upper lip. We can also inject a small dose on either side of the nose, which may also help with the sweating there. Specific doses will depend how large the surface area of the forehead is and strong the forehead muscle contraction is. A larger forehead and strong muscles (typically a male patient), will need a larger dose than a female with a small forehead and weaker muscles. Unit range can start anywhere from 8, up to 20 units. The nasalis muscle normally takes anywhere between 4-10 units, again, depending how strong the muscle is. The upper and lower up normally takes about 8 units, total.
If if you’re experiencing excessive sweating on other areas of the body, such as the underarms, we can also inject anti-wrinkle injections there, to prevent excessive sweating.
