We have had a number of enquiries recently about cosmetic injectables and Coronavirus so here is our guidance on dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatment after infection.

When can I have dermal fillers after Coronavirus (Covid-19)

If you have had Coronavirus we recommend waiting 6 weeks before having dermal fillers.

There is the belief that having dermal fillers within 6 weeks of dental work or infection (e.g severe cold, chest infection) can lead to an increased risk of the dermal filler becoming inflamed at a later date. The likelihood of this happening is still extremely low but we should act on the side of caution just to be safe.

There doesn’t seem to be any impact on the safety or side effect of anti-wrinkle injections if you have them around the time of a concurrent infection within the body or after dental work.

When can I have anti-wrinkle injections after Coronavirus (Covid-19)

You can have anti-wrinkle injections after having Coronavirus once you have finished the recommended quarantine period of self isolation.

When can I have collagen stimulating filler after Coronavirus (Covid-19)?

If you have had Coronavirus we recommend waiting 6 weeks before you having treatment with collagen stimuating fillers.

Dr Brown from Cityskin discusses dermal fillers after Coronavirus

In this video Dr Brown answers patient questions surrounding dermal filler during or after coronavirus.

“The advice that we are giving patients about Coronavirus and cosmetic injectables is that with anti-wrinkle treatment, once you have finished your self-isolation period after contracting Coronavirus you can come in and have your anti-wrinkle treatment but with dermal filler and collagen stimulating filler we recommend waiting 6 weeks after you have recovered from Coronavirus before coming in and having those treatments. With dermal filler and collagen stimulating filler there is a rare but possible late-onset (so months to a year later) risk of developing an inflammatory reaction to dermal filler and they think that this is related to having an infection or inflammation around the time of injection. Our advice is to wait 6 weeks after recovering before booking to have dermal filler or collagen stimulating filler treatment.”
