The aging process and volume loss concern
How do Volume Enhancement Treatments work?
Volume enhancement treatments seek to address concerns that you may have with lost volume in the face. If you would like to find out more about this treatment, book in a free consultation with a Cityskin treatment specialist to discuss all of your questions.
Difference between Wrinkle Management Treatments and Volume Enhancement Treatments:
Wrinkle management treatments address lines and wrinkles, while volume enhancement treatments replace lost volume. The volume enhancement treatment is made of a gelatinous product which is designed to replace lost volume; it can ‘plump’ up the skin. Imagine the skin being like a circus tent with poles to hold it up and keep it taut. As we age, the canopy of the tent becomes looser, and we lose volume which allows the skin to become saggier. When we provide volume enhancement treatment it is like putting extra poles up to lift the canopy of the tent up to make it taut again. The other way of looking at this treatment is that it treats shadows on face.
Common areas for Volume Enhancement Treatments:
Cheek, tear trough and marionette – Addresses concerns you may have about cheeks, tear trough, and marionette lines
Nasolabial folds – Provides a solution to concerns about nasolabial folds
Lips – Addresses concerns about the lips

What are the main risks of Volume Enhancement Treatments?
There are a few minor risks associated with this treatment:
- Bruising at the time of treatment
- Swelling afterwards
- Puffiness in the treatment area. The tear trough area (under the eyes) is the highest risk area.
- Blue-ish discolouration if the volume enhancement product is administered too close to the skin’s surface – known as the ‘Tyndall effect’
Additional risks such as affecting blood vessels in the treatment area, the need to dissolve the volume enhancement treatment, infection and granuloma formation may occur, however they are largely unlikely.
We minimise risks through up-to-date procedures and proper hygiene measures.

FAQs
Volume enhancement treatments typically last between 6 and 18 months. This is dependent upon your individual circumstances, and can be discussed fully with your Cityskin treatment specialist during a consultation for concerns such as cheek, chin, and marionette lines.
At Cityskin we do not use permanent volume enhancement treatments due to safety concerns. Because we use temporary treatments, they can be dissolved if needed, or if an unexpected risk or challenge occurs.
While the treatment itself does not boost collagen production, the treatment process may stimulate collagen synthesis.
