Cosmetic treatments in your 40s

Changes in our 40s

In our 40s we start to see loss of volume in the face which can contribute to marionette lines, nasolabial folds and loss of cheek volume. Fine lines can start to appear around the lips and we tend to lose lip volume. Crows feet, frown lines and forehead lines on the face become deeper and more noticeable. Sun exposure and smoking can speed up the development of lines so make sure you are wearing high factor sunscreen.

We have a very firm belief at Cityskin clinic that your results should look natural and no-one should guess that you have had cosmetic treatment. We want people to say that you are looking good, or refreshed and this can be achieved using subtle treatments.

Anti-wrinkle treatments in your 40s

The aims of anti-wrinkle treatments in your 40s are to soften the lines on the face whilst keeping the results natural. We don’t necessarily want to get rid of all the lines but helping you look refreshed and rested is often the goal. We often ask patients what their best feature is, with the answer commonly being, “My eyes”. A result of the ageing process can mean that the upper eyelids become heavy and more noticeable. If your best feature is your eyes then we want to show them off. By treating the frown lines (brow) and just below the eyebrows we can lift the brow and open up the eyes.

Think of cosmetic treatments as trying to reduce the things that distract from your best features. Crows feet aren’t necessarily a bad thing but sometimes then can distract from other great features. For this reason we like to soften crows feet in your 40s.

Be careful when treating forehead lines – this can sometimes do more harm than good. The forehead muscle is the only muscle that lifts the eyebrows – try it for yourself in the mirror. If we start treating the forehead lines too much it can cause the eyebrows to look heavy or flat which is the opposite of what we want to achieve. Watch Dr Brown’s video on how to treat forehead lines in women to avoid a heavy brow.

Dermal filler treatment in your 40s

The aim of dermal filler treatments in your 40s is to replace the volume that has been lost. Volume loss causes marionette lines to form, the cheeks to flatten and for you to develop nasolabial folds. We aim to correct this volume loss in a subtle, natural way. A simple way of looking at dermal filler treatment in your 40s is to soften the areas that have started to develop shadows where there were none previously.

Double chin injections

We love performing double chin treatments at Cityskin. This is a permanent, non surgical way of reducing double chin fat. Find out all about double chin injections in our treatment guide.

The most important thing to assess in your 40s is whether there is loose skin under the chin or not. If there is some laxity in the skin under the chin then double chin injections may not be ideal for you.

This is the first model patient that we treated at Cityskin. She has had 2 vials in 2 seperate treatments. Treatments were 6 weeks apart. The double chin has reduced and it is no longer visible on the front-on view. The patient was delighted with this result. Please note that results can vary.

Cost of dermal filler treatments

The cost of dermal filler depends on the area treated. As a general rule you need to use thinner fillers in the lips and under the eyes and thicker fillers in the areas where you want more lift (lower face and cheeks).

At Cityskin we charge from $550 – $880 for 1ml of dermal filler, depending on the filler used. Have a read of our dermal filler cost page to find out more about all treatment prices.

Cost of anti-wrinkle injections

We charge $12 for anti-wrinkle injections. It can be quite confusing as you need 3 times as many units of Brand B to have the same effect as Brand A. If you are comparing the two brands directly then Brand B works out as $12 per unit.

A female face generally needs 20 units to the frown muscles, 5-10 units to the forehead and 6-12 units to the crows feet. ‘Bunny lines’ need 1-2 units each side. A neck lift can be achieved, in the right patient, using 10-20 units. Please note that these unit amounts are a guide only. You can discuss your tailored treatment with one of our specialists at your appointment.

A male face typically needs approximately 50% more units than a female face but individual requirements can vary.
