Firstly, a small amount of anti-wrinkle injections (typically, 2-4 units per side) and help support the corners of the mouth back up. The muscle called the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) is the muscle that runs from the corner of the mouth down to the jawline. The action of this muscle is to pull the corners of the mouth down (known as the “sulking face”). When a small amount of anti-wrinkle injections are injected into this muscle, it relaxes the muscle back up – turning a “sad face” into a “happy face”. Anti-wrinkle injections take 1-5 days to start working after treatment, they continue to work for at least 2 weeks, lasting up to 3 months.

Secondly, dermal filler can also address asymmetries. The filler can be used to turn the corners of the mouth back up, fill out any volume loss and support the tissue of the skin. Depending on the amount of volume loss and asymmetry, only 1mL of filler may be needed. Dermal fillers consist of a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is found naturally in our skin. Dermal fillers give an instant result and depending on the individual, and the type of filler used, it can last up to 1 year.

Thirdly, a combination of both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers may be used in conjunction with each other to achieve desired results and can be treated on the same day.
